Obasanjo, Sanwo-Olu Celebrate Flutterwave’s 10 Years of Transforming African Enterprise

Under the glittering lights of Lagos, the Flutterwave inaugural Nigeria Enterprise Domination Gala Night marked more than an evening of celebration. It commemorated 10 years of innovation, ambition, and transformative impact. At the heart of it all stood Gbenga Agboola, known affectionately as Binga GB, whose vision has reshaped the way Africa transacts, connects, and grows.

Agboola took the stage with a calm authority, weaving together stories of the past and aspirations for the future. He reminded the audience of a time when sending money across Africa was a logistical nightmare. “If you took that money on a plane yourself, it would have arrived faster,” he quipped. That challenge sparked the founding of Flutterwave in 2016, a platform designed to empower businesses and entrepreneurs to reach customers beyond borders.

Over the decade, Flutterwave has become a pillar of African enterprise. Over one billion transactions processed, $40 billion moved globally, and licenses acquired across more than 50 jurisdictions. Yet, as Agboola emphasized, success is measured not only in scale but in integrity. “You will not find a business or customer that can say Flutterwave owes them money in 10 years,” he stated proudly, highlighting a record built on trust as much as innovation.

Tonight was more than reflection. It was a vision cast forward. Agboola celebrated the connections made possible by technology, the new markets unlocked, and the Nigerian dream projected onto the global stage. The evening was a testament to what happens when ambition meets infrastructure and when one company’s vision aligns with a continent’s potential.

The former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, brought decades of perspective to the anniversary celebration. His presence was a reminder that progress is built on courage, foresight, and relentless effort.

Obasanjo’s reflections began with context. A Nigeria before mobile phones, before digital payments, when international communication was cumbersome and inaccessible. From that point of comparison, the growth of Flutterwave over the last decade is not just a corporate milestone. It is a symbol of national progress, a story of ingenuity meeting opportunity.

He highlighted the spirit of Nigerian entrepreneurship, from ordinary citizens turning small ideas into thriving enterprises to innovators harnessing technology to leap over structural barriers. “Business is a serious business,” he said, emphasizing that opportunities exist for those willing to seize them.

Obasanjo also turned his gaze to the future. He painted a vivid picture of a world transformed by AI and technology, where work patterns, learning, and interaction will be radically different. Yet he reminded the audience that human creativity and leadership remain irreplaceable and that the real challenge is preparing the next generation through education and skill-building. “The opportunities are there. The resources must follow. The vision must endure,” he said, urging the nation to align talent and infrastructure to realize Nigeria’s full potential.

As Flutterwave celebrated its 10th anniversary, Obasanjo framed the moment as more than a corporate achievement. It was a reflection of a nation’s capability, a demonstration of how leadership, enterprise, and innovation can converge to elevate Nigeria onto the global stage.
