Charles later joined Shell, initially in Rijswijk, Netherlands, before returning to Nigeria. Motivated by childhood dreams from his secondary school days in Port Harcourt, he imagined the life of a successful professional in the oil and gas industry. Yet, the reality of life in Nigeria revealed unforeseen challenges. His wife struggled to adjust after years abroad, particularly with the arrival of their first child in the UK. Charles was confronted with a difficult question: should he prioritize higher pay in Nigeria or a better quality of life for his family elsewhere?

He chose Canada, arriving as an expatriate with his family, supported by the presence of his sister in the country. He navigated the Canadian oil and gas sector with diligence, obtaining professional engineering licenses in Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia. While his initial salary was lower than in Nigeria, Charles notes that his family’s quality of life and financial stability now far surpass what he experienced before.

Charles’s entrepreneurial instincts led him to diverse ventures. In real estate, he began helping new immigrants navigate property purchases. What started as informal guidance to friends evolved into a licensed real estate business, allowing him to leverage his knowledge for both clients and personal investments. In engineering consulting, Charles founded Infinite Grace Incorporated, a consultancy that afforded him flexibility and independence. Today, he continues to contract with major companies such as TransCanada while balancing other business pursuits. In early childhood education, following his MBA and his wife’s nursing qualification, Charles ventured into this sector in 2023.
