Africa Finance Awards Celebrates Angela Nnamani as Tax Trailblazer of the Year

Angela Nnamani has emerged as one of the standout honourees at the 2026 Africa Finance Awards, earning the prestigious Tax Trailblazer of the Year recognition at a grand ceremony held in Lagos. The award placed the spotlight on a career defined by leadership, innovation, and a sustained commitment to advancing excellence within tax administration and public finance systems.

The honour was presented during the sixth edition of the Africa Finance Festival (AFF), one of the continent’s foremost gatherings of financial leaders and policymakers. The annual event celebrates achievements in governance, innovation, leadership, and institutional transformation across Africa’s finance ecosystem. This year’s gala dinner drew finance executives, regulators, tax professionals, public sector leaders, and industry stakeholders from across the continent.

Nnamani, who currently serves as Head, Returns Payment and Process, Large Tax Office, Midstream Oil & Gas Office at the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), received the award in recognition of more than 15 years of impactful service and contributions to strengthening tax administration systems and improving public finance processes.

Her influence also extended to public sector leadership in 2023, when she served as Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service. During her tenure, she championed reform-driven initiatives aimed at boosting revenue generation, increasing institutional efficiency, and advancing digital transformation within the tax system.

Nnamani’s professional journey is also distinguished by an extensive academic and professional background. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (FCTI), and a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) with ISACA. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Enugu State University of Science and Technology, an MBA in Accounting from the University of Nigeria, a Master’s degree in Accounting from the University of Lagos and a Doctorate in Finance from the Babcock Business School.

Further underscoring her commitment to professional growth, she recently completed the Institute of Chartered Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) Associateship Chartered Banker Examinations, marking another milestone in her career progression within the finance industry.

Speaking after receiving the award, Nnamani expressed appreciation to the organisers of the Africa Finance Festival and the Africa Finance Awards for the recognition. She described the honour as both humbling and inspiring, saying it strengthens her resolve to continue driving excellence in tax administration and public finance systems.

She also acknowledged colleagues and collaborators who have supported her journey over the years, dedicating the recognition to professionals working behind the scenes to strengthen institutions and build more effective tax systems across Africa.

As Africa continues to pursue stronger financial systems and institutional reforms, recognitions such as the Tax Trailblazer of the Year award highlight individuals whose work is helping shape the future of public finance across the continent.
