Dangote Cement Signs $800m Deal to Double Itori Plant Capacity

Dangote Cement Plc has signed an $800 million agreement with Sinoma International Engineering to expand its Itori cement plant in Ogun State, doubling the facility’s production capacity from six million to 12 million metric tonnes per annum.

The agreement was signed by the President and Chief Executive of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, and the Chairman of Sinoma International Engineering, Lin Zhong.

The expansion project is expected to significantly boost Dangote Cement’s production capacity, enabling the company to meet rising domestic demand while increasing cement exports to African and international markets. The investment is also projected to strengthen Nigeria’s position as one of Africa’s leading cement-producing and exporting nations.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dangote described the investment as another milestone in the company’s long-term growth strategy and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s industrialisation agenda.

He commended President Bola Tinubu for creating what he described as an enabling business environment, noting that the Federal Government’s renewed emphasis on the use of concrete for road construction and the company’s ambition to expand cement exports across Africa influenced the decision to invest in the Itori plant.

According to Dangote, the expansion aligns with Dangote Cement’s Vision 2030, which targets annual production of between 90 million and 100 million metric tonnes across its operations.

“This $800 million investment represents another bold step in our commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s industrial base and reinforcing our leadership in Africa’s cement industry,” Dangote said.

He noted that expanding the Itori plant would enhance the company’s ability to meet increasing domestic demand while significantly raising export capacity, generating valuable foreign exchange earnings for Nigeria.

Dangote added that the project reflects the company’s confidence in the Nigerian economy and its determination to contribute to economic growth, job creation and regional trade across Africa.

He also highlighted Dangote Cement’s long-standing partnership with Sinoma International Engineering, describing it as instrumental in delivering several world-class cement manufacturing facilities across the continent.

Chairman of Sinoma International Engineering, Lin Zhong, said the agreement marked another significant milestone in the relationship between both organisations.

He expressed confidence that the latest expansion would further strengthen Nigeria’s position as a strategic manufacturing and export hub for Africa.

“We are honoured to deepen our collaboration with Dangote Group through this landmark expansion project,” Zhong said.

According to him, the partnership has delivered some of Africa’s most modern and efficient cement manufacturing facilities, while the new investment demonstrates both companies’ commitment to industrial excellence.

He said Sinoma would deploy its engineering expertise, advanced technology and global experience to ensure the successful delivery of the project to international standards.

The Itori expansion forms part of Dangote Cement’s broader strategy to consolidate its leadership in Africa’s cement industry through sustained investment in production capacity, operational efficiency and export-led growth.

Upon completion, the expanded plant is expected to serve as a major production and export hub, supplying cement to domestic and international markets while contributing to foreign exchange earnings, employment generation and Nigeria’s ambition to become a leading manufacturing powerhouse in Africa.
