After more than two decades in high-impact leadership roles across international development and financial services, Chidinma Lawanson is charting a fresh, purpose-driven path—one that blends rest, renewal, and a powerful resurgence into entrepreneurial impact.
A transformational leader, Chidinma has spent her career building pathways to economic empowerment, financial inclusion, and sustainable development. As Country Director for Nigeria at the Mastercard Foundation, she was at the forefront of strategic programs unlocking opportunities for millions. Before that, she held leadership roles at Diamond Bank, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and EFInA (Enhancing Financial Innovation and Access), where she championed innovation in financial services and policy reform for underrepresented communities.
But in late 2022, life offered her a different kind of blessing—the birth of her miraculous twin boys. By 2023, Chidinma made the deeply intentional decision to pause. To exhale. She stepped away from the global development spotlight to be a more present mother, loving wife, devoted daughter, and joyful sister and friend. And perhaps most profoundly, to reconnect with herself.
That pause didn’t mean retreat—it was a reset.
As 2024 dawned, Chidinma reemerged with renewed energy and vision, channeling her expertise into Springtyde & Renee Limited, the family-founded enterprise focused on expanding access to finance for MSMEs, with a strong emphasis on women-owned businesses.
Armed with a newly secured Lagos State Money Lender License, Springtyde & Renee hit the ground running. By April 2025, the firm had disbursed ₦173 million (over $107,000) in private capital to over 680 MSMEs—ranging from micro-businesses in Surulere’s fashion sector, to agro-processors in Oyo and manufacturers in Borno. With loan sizes spanning ₦1 million to ₦50 million, the firm is rewriting what financial inclusion looks like at the grassroots.
But Chidinma’s model goes beyond money. Her approach is holistic—combining risk-informed lending with business support services and market access solutions. In her words, “Financial inclusion remains at our core—not just to disburse funds, but to build resilience and scale.”
Beyond Springtyde, she continues to lend her expertise to major development efforts:
-
As a consultant on financial inclusion for the BoP Innovation Center (Netherlands)
-
As a capacity-building expert for SMEs with South Africa’s 54 Collective
-
As a consultant for GAIN’s Innovation Fund, focused on large-scale food fortification
-
As part of a British Council project, accelerating digital trade and entrepreneurship for women SMEs in Nigeria
Chidinma’s evolving portfolio blends strategic leadership with on-the-ground impact—driving systems change while remaining deeply connected to communities and entrepreneurs.
She has also taken the stage at key conferences, offering thought leadership on access to finance for agriculture, healthcare, and women-owned enterprises, affirming her role as a critical voice in Africa’s financial inclusion ecosystem.
And just when you think she’s done, there’s more: Springtyde has acquired a 200-acre farmland in Oyo, which will empower smallholder farmers to scale their production capabilities—furthering Chidinma’s commitment to inclusive growth in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
“There is no full stop—only scaling for impact,” she declares. And with her track record, few would argue otherwise.
Chidinma Lawanson is not just back—she’s bolder, more intentional, and laser-focused on outcomes that transform lives. As a board member, CEO, speaker, and global development strategist, she is modeling what it means to lead with purpose, pause with wisdom, and return with power.
