NESG Launches Development Foundation to Drive Socioeconomic Renewal in Northern Nigeria

The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), in collaboration with key stakeholders, has officially launched the Borno Development Foundation (BDF)—a non-profit organization committed to fostering sustainable and inclusive socioeconomic development in Borno State and the broader Northern Nigeria region.

The launch event, held on Wednesday, represents a strategic milestone in NESG’s ongoing efforts to strengthen regional and subnational engagement as a pathway to national economic integration and growth.

Established with technical and institutional support from NESG, the BDF is focused on addressing the region’s most pressing challenges, including post-conflict reconstruction, poverty alleviation, and economic revitalization. Its priority areas include education, healthcare, livelihood support, institutional development, and community rebuilding, with a strong emphasis on supporting vulnerable groups such as internally displaced persons (IDPs), women, and youth.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, Chairman of the BDF and founding member of NESG, described the initiative as a timely and vital step toward peace and progress.

“This Foundation was born out of necessity, formed by well-meaning individuals committed to restoring Borno’s future. As a former NESG Chairman, I know the transformative power of collaboration. Today’s MoU signing is a reflection of that belief,” he stated.

He further acknowledged NESG’s pivotal role in shaping the Foundation’s vision, saying:
“With NESG’s support, we have not just tools, but a roadmap—one grounded in global best practices and tailored to our unique local context.”

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Niyi Yusuf, Chairman of the NESG, lauded the BDF for championing the partnership and reaffirmed NESG’s commitment to supporting transformative initiatives that drive inclusive development across Nigeria.
